Guitar hero Slash preparing to hit the road with gig in Scotland
May 9 2010 Sunday Mail

GUITAR hero Slash revealed having the hots for singer Fergie led to him taking one of the biggest gambles of his controversial rock career.
The ex-Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver idol recruited the stunning Black Eyed Peas star to perform lead vocals on Beautiful Dangerous, a track on his first solo album.
His collaboration with sexy Fergie raised eyebrows among diehard rockers but Slash is unrepentant and claims she's one of the best vocalists he's ever worked with.
In 2009, Fergie and Slash performed together on a live version of Guns N' Roses classic hit Sweet Child O' Mine at the Rosebowl in the US when Black Eyed Peas opened for U2. He was so knocked out by her amazing voice he insisted she appear on his self-titled album.
He said: "I've played w ith Black Eyed Peas a number of times over the years and knew she'd be able to do it.
"I'm sure there were some people surprised Fergie was on my album but that's ridiculous.
"I got hip to Fergie being probably as good - or better - a rock singer than she is a pop singer.
"She's one of the most phenomenal rock 'n'roll singers - male or female - I've ever heard.
"She's got an amazing voice - and she's hot. Who wouldn't want to work with someone as hot as she is?"
Now Slash is preparing to hit the road for a UK tour.
We can exclusively reveal he'll play Edinburgh HMV Picture House on July 1 and tickets - which cost £25 - go on sale on Wednesday.
Guest vocalist will be ex-Alter Bridge star Myles Kennedy, once tipped to replace Robert Plant in Led Zeppelin.
The new album features a string of big name singers including Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Kid Rock and Ian Astbury of The Cult.
Plus there are surprise appearances from former Guns N' Roses mates Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan, and Foo Fighter Dave Grohl.
Slash said: "I wasn't trying to br idge any generation gap or try to be eclectic.
"I wrote the music first then farmed it to singers who I thought might like it or be appropriate for it.
"While that may be offthe beaten Sla sh pat h I knew it would sound great.
"This was a music statement from me but the singers could do what they wanted and have as much input as they liked.
They had a free rein on the lyrics and melod ies." Slash revealed his brilliant collaboration with Iggy Pop on We're All Gonna Die set the standard for the project.
He said: "When I sent Iggy the song he called up a couple of days later and left a message of him singing the words while my demo was playing on his stereo in the background.
"It was so rock 'n'roll. Igg y set the tone for the record."

Slash intervistato dal Courier-Mail

Former Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash

From: The Courier-Mail May 06, 2010

Former Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver guitarist tells Cameron Adams Fergie rocks. Seriously.

Your new solo album Slash features Fergie as a guest vocalist. How did that go down with your rock fans?
It certainly raised some eyebrows. She's pretty badass.
She's a rock singer who has made it as a pop singer. She has great rock chops. When the rumours went around Fergie was on my record everyone thought I was going to go pop. I knew what I was doing. I'd heard her sing rock before, no one else had, so I kept my mouth shut and waited until it came out. This is the first rock recording she's done.

There's a cover of Guns N' Roses' Paradise City she's singing on. Discuss.
Ha. That got an interesting response. Some people loved it; all the purists were f---ing devastated I'd covered it. It was just a fun thing I did. I'd been playing that song with Cypress Hill for years, I always wanted to record it. Fergie was around, she's a huge Axl (Rose) fan, she came and sang it. I didn't put it on the album because I didn't want to make it look like it was really serious. So I put it on a Japanese B-side, and of course it trickled down. But it's actually a really cool version.

What did you have in common with Fergie?
It turns out we have a lot of similar war stories from the past. We both come from a chequered past, let's just say.

You're clean and sober now, but everyone always talks about your drink and drug hell - which you didn't really touch on in your autobiography.
I didn't want to focus on all that stuff in the book. I'm over it. The main focus on the book was to get out some of the reality about Guns N' Roses and the reunion.

Have you had offers to turn it into a movie?
People asked me if I wanted to license it for a movie. It doesn't really interest me. It's just a book I wrote to get some s--- off my chest. I couldn't imagine someone playing me in a movie.

Has the book at least stopped people asking if you are going to reunite with Axl Rose in Guns N' Roses?
It slowed down considerably when I put the book out, yes. It really does spell it out. You'd have to be an idiot to not get it, but there's still obnoxious people who insist on perpetuating that myth. All things considered, I'm really flattered the band has this stigma, this ongoing mystique attached. I try not to get too agitated. There's this newer generation of Guns N' Roses fans who never saw the band - it'd almost be nice to get it together to do some shows for them, but it's just not logistically going to happen.

What did you think of Chinese Democracy, the first Guns N' Roses album without you?
It's great. It's the perfect Axl record.

That's very diplomatic.
No, it is. Axl's brilliant. I look at it differently than your average fan, I look at it more from what he's about and what it represents and our relationship. I think it's a great record. It's very much the record I would have expected him to do.

So what's the status of Velvet Revolver - dormant?
It's just in a state of limbo until we bunker down and figure out who the (new) singer's going to be.

Will there be Guns N' Roses songs in your solo tour of Australia?
Yep, Night Train, Civil War, Paradise City, Sweet Child (O'Mine). Myles (Kennedy) sings everything. There's Velvet Revolver and (Slash's) Snakepit songs too, as well as the stuff from the solo album.
The band kick ass. It's not like were trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

What's your favourite Guns N' Roses video?
The only one I like is Paradise City because it's live.

What about November Rain? Your guitar solo on a mountain is a great rockvideo moment.
I haven't seen that in years.
November Rain is still one of the most expensive videos ever made. I hate videos. So that's right up at the top - the epitome of the kind of thing I cannot stand.

Slash vorrebbe i Gn'R in Glee

EXCLUSIVE! Guns & Roses Songs On ‘Glee?’ Not Going To Happen If Axl Rose Has His Way!

G&R guitarist Slash tells us that he’d love to see the band’s songs appear on Fox’s smash hit show, but lead singer Axl Rose won’t let it happen!

Who wouldn’t love a Guns & Roses-themed episode of Glee? We’d die to see Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith) take Rachel Barry (Lea Michele) to “Paradise City” and for Noah “Puck” Puckerman (Mark Salling) to trade in his Mohawk for a mullet. But sadly, BFFs, a G&R episode of Glee probably won’t happen. (Insert frown face here).

“I’d be shocked if it ever came to be, because Axl might not be down with it,” the 44-year-old rocker told HollywoodLife.com at Charlotte Ronson’s ‘I Love Ronson’/JC Penney party in LA May 4.

WHAT! Lead singer Axl Rose should stop being so selfish — the world NEEDS a G&R-Glee union.

Slash, however, is totally on board with seeing his music appear on the show, and even has some thoughts as to what songs should be performed. “I would love to see “Paradise City” or “November Rain” used on a future episode,” he told us, adding, “but if it ever came to be, I think they would probably pick “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” That seems to be the go-to [song].”

Slash, surely you can use your powers of persuasion on Axl, 48? Or should we say, “Use Your Illusion?”

Slash announces Australian tour
Local News by sarahanne, 27th April, 2010

Currently down under to launch MTV Classic in Melbourne, ex Guns N’ Roses shredder Slash has just announced a full Australian tour set to kick off in August.

The world’s original guitar hero has just put the finishing touches on his first ‘official’ self-titled solo album, which features collaborations with the likes of Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy, just to name a few.

When FasterLouder interviewed Slash last week he spoke candidly about working with some of rock’s biggest names on this album, gushing in particular about the track he laid down with Dave Grohl: “ …I fucking love his drumming, his playing is phenomenal. I wanted him to sing the song on the record, but he didn’t want to sing on someone else’s album, he’s still very shy about that. He was really into his drums because he’d just done Them Crooked Vultures.”

You can read the rest of our interview with Slash, in which he discusses quitting smoking, twitter addictions and that infamous November Rain video, here.

Make sure you get up close and personal with Slash this August at the following shows:

Wednesday 11th August – Palace Theatre, Melbourne
Thursday 12th August – The Tivoli, Brisbane
Monday 16th August – Enmore Theatre Sydney

Tickets on sale 7th May from 9am.

Slash Says Guns N' Roses Purists Take His Music 'Too Seriously'

Apr 27th 2010

When it came time to decide on a bonus track for his eponymous debut album, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash decided to include a slowed-down, hip-hop version of his former band's 1988 Top 10 single 'Paradise City' featuring the unexpected tandem of Cypress Hill and Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas.

"I've been playing 'Paradise City' with Cypress Hill since 2002 -- I just love the way they do the verses -- and we always have somebody come up and do the chorus," Slash explains to Spinner of the collaboration's genesis. "I always said, 'one of these days, we've got to record this' and here we were, seven years later.

"I had the Cypress Hill guys come down [to the studio] and I'd just done 'Beautiful Dangerous' with Fergie so I said, 'why don't you sing the chorus?' just for the hell of it."

Before releasing the track in North America, the guitar god decided to give it a test run with Japanese audiences.

"I put it out as a B-side of a Japanese single and, of course, it cruised around the internet," he recalls. "I had all the Guns N' Roses purists that were really pissed off about it and I had all these other people that really liked it."

Despite the mixed reaction, the guitarist ultimately decided to include the new 'Paradise City' on the deluxe edition because, as he says with a smirk, "I just figured some people are taking it a little too seriously."

Loveline Welcomes Steven Adler And Slash

Two of the original members of Guns N’ Roses stopped by Loveline last night. Slash showed up to promote his self titled debut solo album and Steven Adler just dropped by out of the blue. It made for great radio hearing these guys wax poetic about the good ol’ days. Slash’s album features such legendary artists as Iggy Pop, Dave Grohl, Ozzy, Lemmy, and many more. I highly recommend it.

http://kroq.radio.com/2010/04/07/loveli ... and-slash/
